Last night, NBC Nightly News devoted the first six minutes to the surge of cases in various states. To say the least, the situation is dire. That was followed, as you will see at the 5:50 mark below, by a report on how the wearing of masks, an effective method of reducing transmission of the virus, is still a highly contentious, highly politicized matter in the Benighted States of America.
UPDATE: If this unmasked woman were infected, I wonder how far her viral droplets would travel, given her highly agitated state:
It’s funny how some people assume people that wear a mask *must* be on the left.

Because only the left doesn’t want to spread disease? 🤷♂️

.. the 'disease' state of the USA is highly advanced.. perhaps terminal, Lorne. I saw Owen's post earlier today.. but it was Mound who pulled my trigger and my anger got the best of me. My comment re caging children.. I tried to keep civilized.
ReplyDeleteI really don't care if Americans must party, get their nails done, or buy a new car etc etc.. They can bang meth for all I care or light their hair on fire.. that's how far from reality they've drifted. And as they whine or rage about masks or restrictions on society.. they are fine with caging refugee children
There are so many grounds today, Sal, upon which the U.S. can be indicted. The Mound's post attests to one of the more egregious ones.
DeleteThere was a time extremists were called the "lunatic fringe." Well, they're not a fringe group any longer. They have become a significant political force, people who inform themselves via social media and readily succumb to every conspiracy theory that's floated past them. These are the people who support Donald Trump.
ReplyDeleteEvery issue today, scientific or medical or social, is promptly baked in a thick layer of partisanship and becomes mired in the never ending culture war where the knowledge-driven segment is caught in the grip of the belief-driven group. This will take a terrible toll on the United States and the rest of us will be dealing with the knock-on effects for many years.
The irresponsible and diseased giant to the south clearly and destructively affects jurisdictions far beyond their own, Mound.
Delete"That man's harassing me for not wearing a mask!" Jeez. I recently got called out for publicly shaming someone for mentioning that I don't understand people who don't wear masks. Sometimes harassing and shaming people is necessary for pubic safety! But like racism, it's wishful thinking that it's just an American issue. I won't be surprised if Ontario's numbers start rising again.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are wrong, Marie, but fear you may very well be right.
