I know he's a jackass and a Harper stooge and I have no qualms with his sentence but I still feel a little sad at his humiliation. Guess that's just me.
I can appreciate that, Mound, but for me, Del Mastro as a surrogate for all the Harper reprobates that have not yet been caught or gone to trial works just fine. I feel nothing but delight.
I understand what you're saying, Rumley. I've just never understood the spectacle of public humiliation to be a component of criminal punishment. We came to that conclusion with we did away with the stocks, gallows and whipping posts in the public square and gibbets.
Seriously, people, think about it. This is the very sort of thing that brings humiliation not only on the justly convicted but every bit as much on the wrongly convicted of which, as the record proves, there are plenty. It punishes not only the rightly or wrongly convicted but also their families, especially their kids. I thought we considered ourselves progressive. What is even remotely progressive in celebrating this? I don't get it.
I have forwarded the new lyrics to Jason Scott, to see if he might agree to sing and record it. Scott is a Neil Diamond performance artist. See diamond forever.ca
