On Democracy And Political Leadership

I have a somewhat busy morning ahead, so for the time being I offer the following:

Is the answer to things like this,

this?

Re Manning Takes Aim at Tory Election Bill (March 3):

The Conservatives’ Fair Elections Act is anything but. Instead, it’s about ensuring they’ll form another majority in 2015. There’s only one realistic way to ensure that won’t happen: co-operation among the opposition parties.

Here’s a novel idea: We need leaders who will lead. Elizabeth May has already figured it out; Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair need to hold their noses and go for one-time-only co-operation. Kindergarten students understand the rules that ensure fair play/good outcomes for one and all. For Canada’s sake, Mr. Trudeau and Mr. Mulcair need to take a lesson from the sandbox.

  1. Lorne, Mr. Mulcair has said that he will co-operate with Liberals. He has given the indication for coalition gov. if need arose.

    1. Unfortunately, LD, the Liberals, enjoying their rising poplularity in the polls, are not interested.

    2. Lorne, if Liberals win majority then they don't need NDP but in minority situation they may need to co-operate. Mulcair during leadership race had said that he would never consider coalition with Liberals. Now he has changed his mind. Liberals may do the same in minority situation. It is hard to take politicians for their words.

    3. I agree, LD. If the next election results for the Liberals are not as favourable as they hope, I predict a new era of bipartisan co-operation. ;)
