I Believe This With My Whole Heart

"Either you taste, feel and smell the intoxication of freedom and revolt or sink into the miasma of despair and apathy. Either you are a rebel or a slave."
-Chris Hedges

  1. Harper has managed to hypnotize the public that all is well. That is why public is so apathetic.

    1. Then it is time for Canadians to break the spell and start thinking for themselves, LeDaro.

  2. I think we're nearing the point, Lorne, where it will become apparent whether the critical mass required for revolt can be achieved or whether we're more apt to turn submissive to some new variety of political disenfranchisement and servitude. I use the word "revolt" with some reluctance because I'm still unsure that is the most suitable form of unrest to effect change in Canada at least so far.

My guess is that the rise of authoritarianism and the commensurate decline in democratic freedom reflects an awareness by the forces of corporatism of the growing threat they face from social unrest.

It could be, yet again, that our path will be illuminated by the bonfires south of the border. There is just so much uncertainty.

    1. Chris Hedges, of course, is writing to a primarily American audience, Mound, and perhaps 'revolt' is not the appropriate term to apply to the Canadian situation. Hell, I would settle, at least for the time being, for people weaning themselves away from some of their devices and diversions and spending a little time at least learning about the issues and threats that we face here at home. That has to be the start of turning things around. Capitulation is just too horrible to consider

  3. Let us not talk of revolution when it comes to the point that protests and votes no longer work. The the social collapse and chaos of civil war is not something to want for anybody.

Che Guevara said something in his Black Book about this that is well to keep in mind.
"Where a government has come into power through some form of popular vote, fraudulent or not, and maintains at least an appearance of constitutional legality, the guerrilla outbreak cannot be promoted, since the possibilities of peaceful struggle have not yet been exhausted."
~ Ch. 1 : General Principles of Guerrilla Warfare

So let us continue to struggle peacefully for now. Possibly we can return to the rule of law instead of the rule of Harper and his cronies again.
