Sickening. Heartbreaking. How can anyone be so hateful?
I read this about Russia recently, too: http://thisruthlessworld.wordpress.com/2013/07/12/the-cadaver-synod/
Also, that comment on the 9th didn't appear when I posted it, nor for several days later. I thought it was a Blogger glitch and it was lost in the ether.
After I wrote the post last night, Karen, I started thinking about how our own country has much to be ashamed of as well. I just read something in today's Star that will be the subject of my next brief post showing that we have a way to go as well.
Thanks for the link; I shall check it out momentarily.
These pictures are scary indeed. However, a friend of mine visited Russia and told me that he was treated exceptionally well. Maybe tourism. He was provided with a translator and guide for a very affordable cost.
I encountered a retired teacher at the library recently, LeDaro, who spent some time in St. Petersburg and spoke quite highly of it. On the the hand, my sister-in-law was there recently as part of a cruise package, and she didn't care for it at all. While it is never good to stereotype (except the Harper Conservatives, of course, because they do so closely conform to the stereotypical mean-spirited corporatists that they are;)) I don't think I would spend my tourist dollars on a country where such homophobia is apparently so widespread.
