Things Ron DeSantis Doesn't Want People To Know

JAMES BALDWIN addresses the University Of Cambridge during his epochal debate with William F. Buckley in 1965.

Oratory and content of the very highest order. To listen is to learn.

Keeping both Black and white people ignorant of their history is the main strategy of the Florida governor. God help the Americans if he becomes their president.

  1. Keeping both Black and white people ignorant of their history has often seemed to me to have been a favourite US strategy since about 1780.

Not that we do much better but we typically do not shoot the messenger.

    1. We don't fear the truth as much as Americans seem to, Anon.

  2. @ Lorne.
Yes the US has ingrained denial but Canada , and other nations, have a long way to go to accepting the truth.
NO group be they the oppressed or the oppressors are 'clean' of racial dislike or hatred and that includes first nations and other minorities.
It will be an up hill battle to get humanity to see the truth of our past.
That said, Canada has made admirable strides to reconciliation particularly when our southern neighbours strive to deny such.

    1. Agreed, TB. Much work remains to be done, but the fact that we don't strive to be willfully ignorant about our past gives hope for increased progress in the future.
