A pity that Wayne Gretsky is apparently unacquainted with Mark Twain, evidenced by the former's ringing endorsement of Stephen Harper.
Said the Addled One,
“I think you’ve been an unreal prime minister. You’ve been wonderful to the whole country,” said Gretzky, before he was interrupted by the cheers of the partisan crowd, who jumped to their feet applauding.Although God obviously shortchanged Gretsky in a very important area, at least he gave him sufficient physical prowess to get by in life. A shame the hockey player felt the need to stray into matters he knows nothing about.
“Honestly, I wish you nothing but the most success to you and your family. I know you have the country’s best interests at heart.”
A reminder that some gifts are not transferable, Lorne.
ReplyDeleteVery aptly stated, Owen!
DeleteIs Gretsky even allowed to vote, Lorne?
ReplyDeleteNo he isn't, Pamela, but unlike Donald Sutherland, who spoke out quite passionately against Harper this past week, The 'Great' One seems quite comfortable with this exclusion.
DeleteAs I am fond of reminding my students, God is fair and He endows people with different abilities. Thus some are endowed with great abilities in the sciences, others in the Arts, etc. Since He had already given Gretsky great ability in one area, He had to be fair and balance that out with great "inability" in another area. I think it has become clear, because the Great One chose to open his mouth, where God decided he was to be deficient in. :)
ReplyDeleteNicely put, Anon. "Tis a shame that Gretsky himself isn't humble enough to yield to God's decision.
DeleteSeems Harper felt differently about 'The Great one' in 2009 when he voiced:
ReplyDelete“It seems very convenient that Gretzky is all of a sudden deciding to return to Canada, after a lifetime spent outside the borders of the country he now claims as his home,” said Harper. “Most of his life has been spent in the gated communities of Arizona, with his movie star wife, playing golf. Where was Gretzky during the Quebec referendum, when the fate of Canada was hanging by a thread?” (http://bcinto.blogspot.ca/2009/05/conservatives-slam-elitist-gretzkys.html)
Thanks for the link, Karu. It would appear that in Wayne's world, all is forgiven.

DeleteI was anxiously awaiting Gretzky's ringing endorsement of one of our candidates for national leadership. But I won't be able to make a truly informed decision until Justin Bieber weighs in.
I hope that my indecisiveness isn't taken as a lack of concern.
I had forgotten about "the Beeb'", John. I join you in awaiting his pronouncement with bated breath.
