In response to my post the other day about Donald Trump's fatuous dismissal of climate change because of the cold we are experiencing, The Mound of Sound, who does exemplary work on the subject, explained that the loss of Artic ice is powering the Polar Jet Stream currently engulfing us.
Here is a video that offers a clear and cogent explanation of the phenomenon:
A more detailed written explanation can be found here. All in all, things are unfolding as climate change experts predicted. And that is very, very bad news indeed.
It should be obvious, Lorne, that wealth and intelligence do not necessarily follow one from the other.
ReplyDeleteEvery time he opens his mouth, Owen, Donald Trump makes that abundantly clear.
DeleteThe question no one is asking, Lorne, is how our society and our economy adapts to these extended duration, severe weather events? After two "once a century" floods in just 8-years, how will Calgary cope with more devastation? How protracted a drought can America's Great Plains breadbasket withstand?
ReplyDeleteWe have built our societies, our cities and our economies dependent upon a climate that might be a thing of the past. The report last summer that Canada needs to invest upwards of a trillion dollars in infrastructure begs the question of where do we find the political will for such a Herculean project and what befalls us in the coming decades if we fail?
Thanks for posting the link to that video clip. I wish everybody was made to watch it.
I have asked myself the same question, Mound. Sadly, I think we both know the political will is absent, and it will only be when massive numbers of people wake up to our present peril that the political climate of opportunism that presently prevails has any chance of changing..
