Chris Hedges On The Wall Street Occupation
Chris Hedges, whose purity of vision and integrity I deeply admire, has an interview posted in a series of parts on You Tube regarding the Occupy Wall Street Protest and why he is part of it. Below is the first part of that interview:
I watched both videos of Chris Hedges this morning at 0530. I'm an insomniac, what can I say. Every time I hear this man speak he gives me real hope. He has some fabulous theories based on cold hard facts and I admire him for his controlled, thoughtful message. I think I understand myself a lot more now having spent eighteen minutes with this man's enlightenment and passion. I no longer feel that I am a cynic but might call myself a christian anarchist. Well done, great post.
Mark, I couldn't agree more. The more I read his work, the more I realize the foundations of his beliefs and the solid basis for them. I heard him speak about a year and a half ago, and he presented a pessimist yet cogent argument about the future of the United States. Although his books do revolve around the U.S., his points, I think, apply equally to all of North America and much of the West.
You refer to yourself as a Christian anarchist. The more I think about the central message of Jesus, the more I realize how revolutionary his views were, in that they directly confronted and sought to overturn the status quo. This is not a message, however, that I remember receiving during my years of church attendance.
