VIDEO: Police in London, Ont., use Taser on 17-year-old boy

Watch this video and decide if the tasering was warranted:

Undoubtedly, the SIU will find nothing wrong here.

UPDATE: Circling the wagons as they are wont to do, the London Police Chief had the following justification for the use of this 'conducted energy weapon':

The sergeant was justified in deploying the Taser without giving a verbal warning, London's chief of police said Friday.

The teen had wrapped a belt around his fist, punched the other teen and then used a chair to strike the other teen about his head, Chief Brad Duncan said.

"Clearly here it was unfolding very, very quickly," he said.

"In fact, when one views the video, it's about a second between the use of force by this individual and then the application of the conducted energy weapon," Duncan said.

"Clearly at the time that the device was deployed, he was the aggressor."

Is he watching the same video the rest of us are?

  1. Step 1. Shoot.
    Step 2. Paid vacation.

They don't even both asking questions later after shooting first. At least until they need to know what evidence is out there so they can manufacture a story for the courts.

  2. Disgusting! Before the days of tasers, my colleagues and I broke up many fights without the need to use a weapon. We were trained to do our job and strongly cautioned against the use of excessive force. To even draw your weapon usually resulted in having to file reports in duplicate. The video would indicate a fairly normal donnybrook between two combatants. The police sergeant is not a small man. Apparently no guns or knives were being used. Where is the need to use a taser? There appears to even be some evidence the person tasered was acting in self defense after being attacked.
Not to worry! The SIU decision is predictable.

  3. I find the entire debate about heroes and insults to be finally put to rest.

  4. The police officer's reaction is completely acceptable and appropriate. The teenage boy was raised in a broken dysfunctional home causing him to resolve conflicts in a violent and unacceptable manner. He was violently hitting another teen WITH A WEAPON and got what he deserves. Even after dangerously hitting the other teen numerous times, the teen being hit still did not hit him back. If the mother of the teen had not taught her child to resolve issues violently, this would not have occurred...therefore she should not be complaining and accept responsibility for her children's violent actions and attitude.....

Next time he should think twice before hitting someone with a CHAIN or a CHAIR. What comes around goes around…
