Pray For Jimbo
Apparently, crazed televangelist evangelical Jim Bakker has enemies that are legion.
“I don’t dare wear a Trump hat. The evil in this country is so bad if I was a Republican — which I have been my whole life — I couldn’t wear a hat with my candidate on it without concern about being murdered in the street,” Bakker said.
Lorne, I cannot comprehend how these charlatans keep recycling with their perpetual grifting. Seriously, Donald Trump doesn't lie!!!!!! I guess Mound is 100% accurate with his reference to Gullibillies. RG
Seeing such widespread credulity is very disheartening, RG, but helps demonstrate how debased society has become. Is it any wonder that we have the kind of politics we do when there is an appetite for such egregious charlatanism?
Years ago I pursued a couple of fraud artists who belonged to an evangelical Christian businessmen's association. A friend told me that, when you get into it with one of those guys, you could be damned sure that the devil had them by both lapels.
I had a candid chat with one guy who had fleeced the weak, the poor and the elderly in which I asked him how he could identify so strongly with evangelism. His answer was chilling. He believed that he could sin all week so long as he was able to repent his sins and have his god's forgiveness every Sunday. Seriously, the guy said that to my face without hesitation. He believed it to be true and, from what I've learned, his fellow businessmen members were of a like mind.
These are truly dangerous people, Mound, but their power wouldn't exist if people weren't so stupid. As with so many other threats confronting us, we truly are our own worst enemies.
What depth of fear makes people so crave belief that they allow themselves to succumb to such blatant hucksters? Having been born and raised Protestant I have some understanding of Christianity but it is alien to the self-serving garbage served up by Bakker and, especially, the 'prosperity gospel' evangelists. They pervert what Christ taught and that is unquestionable on any plain reading of the Bible. I suspect the lot, preachers and their flocks, are in for an eternity other than they imagine.
I've never really understood them either, Mound. As you say, what they peddle is so contrary to what Christ preached, but maybe it goes to the fact that people don't take the time to really think about and understand their beliefs and prefer the simplistic absolutes offered by these crazed evangelicals. Kind of like the way the Trump supporters think, eh?

DeleteI couldn't get halfway through that clip, Lorne.
