The Americans Had Their Wells Fargo Scandal ....

Now we have our own, thanks to TD Canada Trust's duplicitous practices:

  1. Market Place is a good show Lorne. Many times throughout the years, they have exposed the underhanded dealings of Canadian banks.

I can see that TD would have no problem using their tellers as "used car salesman." It's not enough that tellers worry about losing their jobs because of customers using ATM machines more frequently, now they have to worry about losing their jobs for not selling enough products to customers.

Bank employees don't have unions do they? They need one.

    1. If ever there was a group that needed a union, Pamela, bank employees are it. I remember when debit cards were first introduced, and TD tellers were asking me if I knew I didn't have to use them but instead could get my money from an atm. At the time I thought it was strange that they would be promoting a technology that would ultimately let the bank reduce their numbers, but now I understand they had no say in the matter.

In the neoliberal world we live in, people are readily disposable; record profits are not.

  2. The good thing is that we've still got co-ops and credit unions despite all the efforts of the chartered banks to stigmatize them. I got so fed up with chartered banks back when I was regularly battling them in court that I took my personal banking elsewhere. We do have choices.
