"A Hit, A Very Palpable Hit"

Forgive me for frequently quoting from Hamlet, but Shakespeare's words seem most relevant today, thanks to Theo Moudakis:

In related news, Mr. Carney has not ruled out becoming involved in militarily with Trump's madness in Iran.

Prime Minister Mark Carney would not rule out military involvement in the spiralling Middle East war, stressing the possible need to defend Canadians and allies as the deadly conflict threatens to widen.

Carney also appeared Thursday to harden his stance when he declined to call for an immediate ceasefire, saying the stated war aims of the United States and Israel — to eliminate Iran’s capacity to build nuclear weapons and sponsor terrorism — had not been achieved.

“While we want to see a broader de-escalation of these hostilities,” including with the participation of other countries impacted by the violence, Carney said, “we recognize and stress that that cannot be achieved unless we’re in a position where Iran’s ability to acquire a nuclear weapon … and to export terrorism is ended.”

[Sigh] Davos seems so long ago, doesn't it?

  1. There is no country that I would trust with nuclear weapons.

  2. Miliary?

What we need to be doing is getting Canadians out. We need to evacuate anyone who wants to come.

  4. The Canadian and other non nationals working in the Gulf area are there for financial gain that they perceive as above and beyond what they can earn in their native countries.
Add to that that they often, perhaps always, use a tax free country bank account to deposit their gains!
I know an individual that facilitated such transactions!!
To cry foul that they cannot get out of Dodge quickly enough makes my stomach turn in disgust.
These people who are earning upwards of three or four times the Canadian average wage whilst evading paying Canadian taxes are now asking for a Canadian taxpayer bailout""
Well; fuck them, they are no better than the millionaires and billionaires that suck Canada dry by employing tax consultants to bleed the average hard working Canadian worker of his or her hard won benefits of health and decent pension !!!
Time to call a spade a spade?

    1. Thanks for the link, TB. As to who the U.S. thinks it is, well, that is obvious, isn't it? They're King of The World, led by a mad monarch.

  7. Understanding Trump and MAGA is frustratingly difficult for most people, including myself.
For those national leaders who have to deal with him whilst running their countries everyday needs and demands must be extremely difficult.
We are now reaping the results of chasing the USA's post WWII economic boom without thought of any consequence.
Not only did the anglosphere chase the US wealth it succumbed to its politics and culture.
The UK will likely suffer the worst under MAGA and Canada the better.
Carney is pursuing other markets and affiliations but he cannot just make a clean break; that would be suicidal.
Maga will still be around when Trump is long gone; we must prepare for that time.

    1. I agree, TB. What Trump has wrought will be very difficult to recover from. He has unleashed the ugliest aspects of America, and those aspects now have an entitled place in society.
