The only choice that makes sense to me, MC, is to exclude the unvaccinated from attendance at all non-essential locales, eg. gyms, restaurants, bars, theatres, etc. The extreme contagiousness of the Delta variant and the increasing number of breakthrough infections demand such public safety measures, in my view.
They're going ahead with those measures here in La Belle Province.
Unfortunately, I don't think the powers that be will be satisfied. I predict a winter of lockdowns, curfews and anything else under the sun they think they can impose.
I believe this pandemic has more to do with politics than health.
Here in Ontario, the Ford government is thus far refusing to issue vaccine passports. Businesses are arguing they are the only way to avoid future lockdowns, so it will be interesting to see how things play out in your province, MC.
Coronavirus vaccine has risen to a social norm. It is what our society by a large majority supports. We also want masks, hand sanitizers, lots of washing both to protect others and to protect ourselves. Anti vaxxers assert a right over their own bodies. Fair enough. They assume some implied right to expose others to the consequences of their choice. No. We live with all sorts of social norms. Breaching some of them may earn you a fine or a little worse. Breaching others may get you the stink eye from your neighbours.
The oh-so backward Slave States have shown the toll taken by anti-vax/anti-mask policy. They've done a fine job of filling every hospital bed with people on ventilators. I guess it's a "southern" thing.
It really surprises me that we have so many in Canada who are demonstrating so vocally against any kind of mandates, Mound. Perhaps they have been emboldened by their American fellow-travellers?
Well, what would you propose we do with the unvaccinated? Send the police door by door with a nurse and tie them down? Serious question.
