Christine Elliott's Debasement

There was a time I had a measure of respect for Christine Elliott. She seemed to me to be someone largely above the toxic politics that now ensnares public discourse and office. However, after her leadership loss to Doug Ford, she changed. Now she is just one of the many who are content to march to the discordant music of Pied Piper Ford and applaud his every move as he leads Ontario into division and disaster.

If you start the following clip at the 28-second mark (be sure to expand the screen while watching), Elliott's self-induced debasement is there for all to see.

To attack public education in the way Ford is doing is to show contempt for the future of the province. But I suppose, given his own very limited education and the fact that he could go directly into Daddy's business when academics proved too much for him, this 'self-made' man presumes he is the smartest person in the room, and that book-learnin' is ultimately a waste of time, eh?

    1. Their litany of misdeeds is long, Gyor, and will only get more extensive the longer these thugs and quislings are in office.

  2. If the people of Ontario support this guy into the next election then, yes, you're done. It seems these cheap populists always leave ruin in their wake. But, if the majority of voters continue to back this lout, that's their choice - ruin.

    1. He is an embarrassment to fair-minded people everywhere, Mound, but all of us in Ontario have to bear the shame of his premiership.

  4. Ford, another neoliberal front man . What separates him from previous neoliberal political frontmen and woman is the speed with which he is attacking Ontario's social programs, such as Ontario Works, Health Care, Education and Labour etc.. I listened to Christine Elliot talking about the changes the conservatives are making to health care, as being a good thing for the people of Ontario. I knew what that restructuring of health care really meant, the beginning of our health care decreasing in public control and eventually to be privatized. It's a long ways up the road for that to happen, but it's started and Christine Elliot has given it the first push. Fords firing of 3400 teachers over 4 yrs. is also a push to eventually dismantle public education and have it privatized. Charter schools any one?
He thinks there should be more economics taught in our schools as if learning and knowledge was determined by studying economics. But then we are all consumers now, not citizens, so knowing mainly economics and finance is a prerequisite to judging everything according to the free market. Neoliberals finest contribution to an education, that excludes the learning of humanities.

How about his legislation to stop people from getting overtime pay after 44 hrs. of work. Even at this early stage I could go,on,but I think you get the idea.

Ford has not come up with these neoliberal policies himself, he's not very bright, so his neocon advisors teach him some buzz words, that he can understand then send him off to initiate their neoliberal agenda, and we are left listening to ford do neoliberalism 101 speak as if he knows what he's talking about.

Ford became the leader of the conservative party by getting thousands of Evangelic Christians to become first time members in order to vote for him and gave him a stronger lead then anyone else who was running. Before that he was losing! GAWD knows what he promised them. Ford and Trudeau are soul brothers in their neoliberal quest to destroy Canada's welfare state and change our Political Nation to a Corporate Nation. They are also soul brothers in their lack of real intelligence. Both can be manipulated completely into accelerating Canada's Deep State's neoliberal policies, which is precisely what both of them are doing!

    1. I can't disagree with a word of your analysis, Pamela. I am heartsick at the destruction the Ford wrecking crew is wreaking, and I can only hope that in his zeal to dismantle the social and health fabric of our province, he will alienate so many people that a huge swath of Ontarians recognize him for what he is: an ill-educated, sledgehammer-wielding bully who understands remarkably little about what civil society means and how it works.
