What Humanity Has Wrought
Only moronic literalists (a.k.a.Trump and those who are similarly incapacitated) will see this current deep freeze as a refutation of global warming. The rest will see it as part of an increasingly obvious pattern and, hopefully, weep.
The media, in a demonstration of unbelievable negligence, fail to put these stories in any useful context. Not a mention of Sitka, Alaska where the town has been enjoying record high temperatures or how the southern hemisphere is roasting. They could, and should, tell their audiences that this is a regional event, an outlier. What they're doing is a betrayal of journalistic principles. They're not supposed to knowingly lead their audience to false conclusions and yet they do.
American corporate news is notorious for this, Mound, and I can't say that the CBC is much better. Weather porn, as opposed to weather and climate analysis, guarantees more eyeballs on the screen, I guess.
.. I'm a little out of touch re the weather bomb having arrived. Will catch up & thanks re the post etc. I sent a missive Mound's way the other day, guessing that our maritimes and Newfie - Labrador would get absolutely hammered though probably with less crying or panic.. and certainly less publicity or concern. But deep snow or missed flights are one thing. Zero electric power is a different story. If temperatures are anywhere near what southern Ontario is experiencing its disaster for the aged, the poor, the homeless, livestock, business..
You're among the last who need to be told of the vast damage.. societal, personal, economical etc of these climate disasters.. Hell, we could call them warnings.. of the 'big one'.. mother earth just getting warmed up to really trash us. Has yet to roll up her sleeves so to speak. Look out Loretta when she does !
It's a little too complicated for the average conservative to understand. Climate change is more than global warming. It includes more extreme weather events and extreme temperatures at both ends of the scale but as part of an overall warming trend.

DeleteFrom Massachusetts to California the evidence is everywhere, Lorne. But some folks have wooden heads.
ReplyDeleteWillful ignorance, Owen, will be the death of our species.
