It constantly amazes how Americans simply ignore these surveys in favour of a totally fictitious narrative that underlies American exceptionalism. That, in turn, this willingness to ignore their nation's many failings, is made possible by the deep and corrosive divisions in American society. I wonder if the American state could long survive without "others" - foreign or domestic - on which to cast blame when necessary to deflect attention from accountability.
