A Childish Recantation

That is the only conclusion I can draw from the fact that in at least temporarily acquiescing to the demands of Republican orthodoxy, Donald Trump makes a conspicuous display of reading notes instead of using a teleprompter or speaking extemporaneously as he 'endorses' people he still has a score to settle with. The message to his true believers? "Folks, I don't really mean what I am saying."

Take a look at the following clip to see what I mean:

    1. I doubt that his twisted ego will allow that kind of outside 'interference' to persist for very long, Owen.

  2. The debates will tell all. Trump managed to destroy his Republican rivals with sheer bombast but he'll have to deal with policy against Hillary and there'll be no ready script. When he was taking down Rubio, Bush and Cruz he didn't have to appear particularly presidential or else he would have lost. In the general election campaign that dynamic shifts and not to Trump's advantage. I'm no fan of Hillary but I'll be surprised if she can't eviscerate the Orange Buffoon at the podium.

    1. I have read somewhere, Mound, that he may, in fact, boycott the debates. Judging by your very disturbing post on authoritarianism, I doubt that his refusal to participate would bother his ardent followers in the least.

  3. Hillary backs out of a debate with Bernie: perfectly Ok. Trump backs out of a debate with Hillary: his supporters are lowlifes for thinking it's Ok.

BTW, Hillary is looking very presidential: when confronted with the fact that she lied to FBI investigators -- which is what got Martha Stewart thrown in jail -- over a private email server she set up to be able to destroy evidence of bribery, (which she did: 30,000 emails) she said her brain "short circuited."

    1. No one would disagree that Hillary is not the ideal candidate here, Anon, but she would be an infinitely preferable choice to a man with no experience, a man who displays a deep narcissism and dishonesty that renders him unfit to hold office.

Additionally, it would be unheard of for a candidate to refuse to debate his presidential rival in the lead up to November. But then again, it is unheard of for a presidential nominee not to make his income tax returns public, another precedent that his acolytes seem quite willing to accept.
