A Post Fact-Checking World?

That seems to be the opinion of Donald Trump supporter Jeffrey Lord, who offers this view: I honestly don’t think this ‘fact-checking’ business ... is anything more than one more out of touch, elitist media-type thing.

I'm sure the rabble would agree:

  1. FOX News was the right's experiment in the power of messaging liberated from the restraints of honesty. What is Trump but an extreme manifestation of that phenomenon? Truth as elitism. Just to be able to say that without hesitation speaks to the state of the electorate, how thoroughly they've been conditioned and how readily they now succumb to manipulation. It recalls those grainy, black and white films of rallies in a distant country in the 30s.

    1. I think that it will soon be de rigeur, Mound, for the masses to have torches and pitchforks at the ready, should they be required by their leader.

  2. Elitism is the new criticism Lorne. Harper and his pundits used it alot. It's directed at any one who thinks, ask questions and GAWD forbid advocates discussing political ideas. It is a criticism of anyone who uses their intellect, by people who do not want to be held accountable to facts and/or meaning regarding anything they say. They see being asked to explain themselves as an effrontery. We're supposed to accept anything they say on faith and as being the truth. The dumbing down of America is almost complete. All that's left is for Donald Trump to be elected president. The criticism of elitism is not even directed at intellectuals, there are so few of them these days, but at average people who would like candidates like Trump to explain himself.

    1. A well-placed critique, Pamela. The present and future do not look especially promising, with few to challenge this seeping affront to critical thinking.
