Well, the news has come in that Trump is cancelling trade negotiations with Canada over our digital services tax, which he says is an attack on the U.S. He promises punishing tariffs for our 'temerity'.
No doubt he expects us all to quiver and cave. I think it's time to take the gloves off and really hurt the Americans at least as much as they intend to hurt us.
Here's a video that articulates a Western view about life in the U.S. and the need to act:
As we all know, Trump is prone to tantrums. It seems to me that Carney should just ignore him.
ReplyDeleteWell, Toby, that certainly seems to be Carney's initial response. However, if Trump does indeed impose even more punishing tariffs for our 'attack' on his country, Canadians will expect and demand a strong response.
DeleteThe Japanese went home when u.s. negotiators couldn't define what they wanted. We have all dealt with that person that says they want this and when delivered , its not good enough and now want something new not even connected to the last demand. It is usually a family teenage or spousal thing but just never works out. Canada twisted in pretzels for QP and Alberta got its delusion demands from that example.
ReplyDeleteTrump simply has a 2025 laced agenda and a bully stick and nothing will satisfy him except Iranian style "unconditional surrender". Canadians that think that government has to fix this rather than individual Canadians themselves are just as deluded.
Our rich care only about their money, our provinces infight and way too many love the orange bloat or are happy to sell out.
Canadians that rise to the challenge will be under cut by those who look to win by suffering a little less than other Canadians, or win political power by having Canada fail or just as the with the political machinations above , whatever happens some pollievreite will twist it into "not enough"
You may indeed be correct, lungta, but I am looking and hoping for better here. This is not the time for appeasement, equivocation or pandering.
