Putting Things Into Perspective

With the passing of our beloved Queen, an icon of selfless dedication we fondly thought would go on for much longer than her 96 years, mortality is on the minds of many - especially if they have 'achieved' a certain stage of life.

A friend sent me the following, which puts things into perspective, I think.

  1. The trick is to do it gracefully, Lorne. And that she did.

    1. She should serve as an exemplar for all of us, Owen, no matter what age we may be.

    2. I think her grace and decorum might be a factor of that infinite bank account, a doctor 24/7 365 and every whim accommodated, endless world travel and being surrounded by an endless fan club
Kinda like Jesus having a great childhood as both parents knew him as the son of god. Sorta cuts down on the child abuse somehow.

    3. I doubt that many of us would have wanted to live her regimented and regulated life, lungta, despite the so-called perks.

  2. Yes, it's true. I'm giving up the motorbike this year. I just can't resist the power and the exhilarating speed and cornering. I can't be trusted, as my kids remind me incessantly. I have three, first-string doctors and about as many second-stringers. Hard to tell how this wraps up. It could be tomorrow or 15 years from now. Aging is such a funny thing. I've known lawyers who were old at 35, spiritually dessicated, bereft of passion of any sort. Then there's the wild child type. At the last firm I was with the students began calling me "Leo" behind my back. One of the little bastards while in his cups told me it stood for Large Evil One. I liked that.

    1. I think that each stage of life offers both its delights and its challenges, Mound. It comes down to what we make of them, I guess.
