The Elbowgate Kerfuffle

While I think elbowgate is much ado about little (will Ruth-Ellen Brosseau now claim to be a 'survivor' of workplace violence?), the episode does raise some unsettling concerns that the old Liberal arroagance is quickly reasserting itself, doesn't it?

  1. What has happened recently makes one wonder if anything has changed, Lorne.

    1. I especially worry about the potential disillusionment of those who have only recently become engaged in the political process, Owen.

  2. As for Brosseau, I haven't seen a dive that good since the World Cup. You know I don't cut Trudeau any slack these days but the NDP in this, including Mulcair, have been infantile. That's what Canada so badly needs, a diversion from focusing on our real problems and the new government's errant path.

  3. Hi Lorne.. a big (little) wave from the salamander horde's little feets. We thinks a fine topic in aid of your wondrous & exemplary Indy Blog might be to examine Fabrication in Canada'a House of Commons. Seeing as all MP's are 'Honorable' .. not to mention immune, it raises the issue of 'consequence' or complete lack of. Now we regret that such a topic might involve contemporary speeches that might have been seen, heard or read.. or land in Hansard until triple deleted.. Yet we do believe The Honorable MP Peter Van Loan recently delivered a truly shiny example to consider. After all, such a brilliant orator who served so honorably under Stephen Harper, deserves attention for rhetorical leadership.. bombast while wounded in action so to speak. After all, he was likely the closest eyewitness to 'ElbowGate' - the charge of Justin Trudeau & the absolute carnage that took place. To our good fortune this veteran MP happened to be sitting right beside the NDP's Nike Ashton - also traumatized by the frumious current First Minister along with Ms Brosseau - recipient of the elbowing & duly knocked into the joint desk shared with the brave Van Loan who alertly & instantly came to their defense after looking up into the furious fray putting his glasses on & shouting for the Sergeant At Arms to arrest the miscreant reckless & responsible! The now famous ElbowGate video seen by millions must bear out his courage & Canadian Values & we think any video recording of his tremulous Speech to Parliament the next day of the horror he witnessed - indeed was assaulted by. He deserves special counsel for such trauma & possible advice to seek reparation, even if just for the indignity which may precede late or retroactive onset of PTSD. Please watch the infamous video & you will spot him to the right of ms Ashton who was resplendent in orange. Poor Peter it seems was the only MP exposed to the fiery anger in the face and eyes of young middle aged Justin Trudeau as he rushed to his hysterical and historic onslaught.. right up there with the massacre at Wounded Knee or the senseless hanging of Louis Riel ..

    1. Your post here serves to remind us all, Salamander, of the brave men and women who serve our nation with such courage and integrity, despite the constant threat to their physical and spiritual dignity. Perhaps a special category for the Order of Canada needs to be carved out for those who put themselves in harm's way in the House of Commons to serve the greater good?

As well, a special shout-out to both Ms. Brouseau and Ms. Ashton is clearly in order for their histrionics that so effectively conveyed the horror of that day, a day that will surely live in infamy.
