..... Canada Day

I wish that I could have inserted 'Happy' in front of today's title, but for reasons too obvious to discuss, I couldn't. However I will say this: may next year find all Canadians in circumstances whereby we can freely use that adjective in a heartfelt salutation to our country.

Meanwhile, allow me to offer the following to observe this day:

And my most heartfelt wish:

  2. Your first picture Lorne reminds me of a Leonard Cohen song "Democracy is coming to the USA" When he says, and this can apply to Canada, "Love the country, hate the scene" I love my country, I hate Harper and the CON government. Canada day 2016, hopefully we will be celebrating it's rebirth.

    1. I get the sense, Owen, and I hope that I am right, that more and more Canadians are waking up to the reality we currently chafe under.

  4. A good way to pass the time on Canada Day is to get out your oldest photo albums and use those images to recall what Canada was, what we were, back before this current darkness. Remember those days back when one car served the entire family and when family members took it in turn to get up and change the TV dial. Think back to those decades when the distinction between political parties was significant but not irrationally so. It's good to revisit those decades past to recall what we had. It makes me happy anyway. See if it works for you.

    1. That is a great suggestion, Mound. Perhaps in revisiting those times, we can reawaken that spark of imagination, vision and passion that made us what we were as a country.

  5. I just wanted to share this description of Canada from Emily Carr. It does not appeal to patriotism, but something much more profound, love of country.
" It is wonderful to feel the grandness of Canada in the raw, not because she is Canada but because she is something sublime that you we're born into, some great rugged power that you are part of" I think she has put into words what many of us feel.

  6. Lorne, it is unfortunate what is going on currently as far as our government is concerned. I hope good days are ahead.

I do wish you a Happy Canada Day.
