A Glimmer Of Integrity

Although the denunciations of Donald Trump from members of the GOP are welcome, the fact that they come from Jeff Flake and Bob Corker, two U.S. senators not seeking re-election, mutes the impact of their words. Unqualified integrity, in my view, would be shown if those seeking re-election were to speak out as forthrightly.

  1. I watched Flake's speech, Lorne. Admittedly, he escapes a bruising election. Nonetheless, the speech was pretty strong stuff.

  2. Trump has put Congressional Republicans on notice that those refusing to bend a knee will be relentlessly hounded in the primaries. He will use his clout to see them crushed. They all stand intimidated, cowed. That's what every schoolyard bully dreams of and these Congressional kids are handing over their lunch money to the bloat. At some point something will have to give but it's unclear whether that will be the last vestige of Republican self-respect or the "co-equal" branch of government business that anchors their vaunted system of checks and balances. It's pretty obvious that Trump intends to subvert Congress as a force that could restrain him. He doesn't want to share power. He wants to be CEO of the United States of America. The good news is that he doesn't have a clue what to do with that power. His mind isn't up to the visionary challenge. And, with president Queeg in the wheelhouse, SS USA is heading for the shoals.

    1. An apt allusion, Mound. Increasingly, the U.S. is seen by the rest of the world as both unmoored and rudderless.

  3. .. the point has been made that nobody can really keep track of, much less clearly refute any or all the Trump lies.. & the daily barrage does seem endless. One must burst out laughing at the shameless antics & pedantics of ms Sara Huckabee Sanders who's shocking baloney dispersal level puts Sean Spicer to shame

Speaker Ryan aint no slouch either.. just oilier & more devious. And then there's Bannon, firmly stating he will politically & otherwise ($$) screw any politician standing in the way of his proudly white supremacist worldview..

Meanwhile Fox tv with remarkable & truly ironic sneering just 'changes the channel' on a daily basis. When Trump does his daily diseased hoof n mouth trick - count on Fox to cover madam Clinton & Benghazie's mysterious revelations. How bizarro.. a tv network finding huge success by changing the channel away from Presidente Pathectico.. who knew?

I once had an unusual group of friends who gathered weekly.. to have drinks n dinner in top drawer business or banquet wear. That's right., women with elbow high white gloves & pearls, men in fancy smoking jackets & the like - all just to watch n giggle at the weekly Dallas episode or a re-run.. Now they do this to howl at Donald & his clueless family & faction.. & pretend they're all Kardashions dining at The Trump Tower

The point I am meandering to very clumsily is this. The Trump fallacy failure & fakery is the most successful sitcom-cum-reality tv show in history.. It is all conquering via social media. It IS THE NEWS .. and its not politics.. its a crazed fraud's retribution or revenge upon a previous President and all Obama accomplished. This is WHITE GOLFER REVENGE TV.. & don't you forget it..

    1. Your searing assessment, Sal, leaves me with only one question. How long can the American public remain hooked on this particular reality show? All series have a shelf life, and many must be tiring of the Orange Ogre's schtick.

Then again, perhaps P.T. Barnum's famous observation will hold for a while longer.
