I wonder, LeDaro, if the corporate world would be so enthusiastic about the spreading of 'democracy' via the war machine if they had to pay a special war surtax on their profits to pay for such adventurism?
Great Carlin piece, Lorne. I grew up listening to Carlin and always thought he was just a really funny entertainer. When I revisit his work now, I realise that he was more than that. He was more a philosopher and teacher. He stripped away the illusions of society and explained reality to us.
Like you, Anon, I remember when Carlin was simply regarded as a very talented comedian. As he ventured into social commentary laced with his lacerating humour, he only got better. I'm sure he was on more than one of the government's enemies' lists. His observations become more and more relevant with each passing year.
And that is the nature of democracy we want to spread to rest of the world - Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya to name a few. Maybe Syria soon.

Delete"They want more for themselves and less for everybody else." Exactly.
ReplyDeleteWe desperately need someone with Carlin's anger and passion to speak the truth today, Owen.
DeleteLorne, who will impose "special war surtax" on corporations when they run the show? Governments are in their pocket as George Carlin points out.
ReplyDeleteRest of us are paying "special war surtax" anyway whether we like it or not.
Sadly, point well-taken, LeDaro.
