The Lord May Move In Mysterious Ways

... but I wish He would choose better messengers:

  1. These guys sound as though they're crazy, but the real crazies are the idiots who send them the money that buys their airplanes and air-conditioned doghouses.

Perhaps even more so than either Limbaugh or Beck, the prosperity gospel mongers put me in mind of Lonesome Rhodes:

"For those morons out there: sure. I can take chicken fertilizer and sell it to 'em for caviar; I can make 'em eat dog food and they'll think it's steak. Sure - I got 'em like this. You know what the public's like? A cage full 'a guinea pigs.

"Goodnight, you stupid idiots. Good night you miserable slobs. They're a lot 'a trained seals. I toss 'em a dead fish and they'll flap their flippers."

    1. I'm sure that deep down, many of these televangelists view their 'congregation' in precisely those cynical terms, John.

  2. Well, he's got a point. Flying "cattle class" is like "getting in a looooong tube with a bunch of demons." These guys are terrific, just awesome. They have tapped into a vein of gullability that's bottomless. Time to cull the herd.

    1. I guess their self-identified special status allows them to soar above the rest of us, Mound, in more ways than one.

    1. I'm betting none of these televangelists ever have a sermon on money as the root of all evil, Pamela.

  4. Hello again Lorne. I seem to recall your mentioning one time of how much you admire Dr. Martin Luther King jr. I do too. I don't know if you are aware of the 5 Massey Lectures he gave in 1967. They were recorded by the CBC (When it was a sophisticated , intelligent network) You can find them on Youtube under Massey Lectures uploaded by Matthew Siegfried. Dr. Kings observations and analysis of not just civil right, but society, especially the US are brilliant and moving. If you already know of these lectures, excuse my suggesting them. I just finished the 5th one tonight.
