Some 'religious' people will undoubtedly find this teaching from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hard to accept.
Republicans have good reason to fear this woman, because her ability to cut through their BS is a master class in the art of political engagement. She absolutely understands how to sell a values driven argument and her honesty, integrity and passion spills out from every point she eloquently makes. #DemsAct #DemVoice1 #wtpBLUE #ONEV1 #FAM46UPDATE: If you go to the six-minute mark in the following, I think you will find a perfect example of the kind of misconduct AOC is railing against:
Apparently the video is no longer available on YouTube, but here is a link to the story and video.
Christianity in practice, Lorne.
ReplyDeleteOr at least the perverted version of it so loved by the bigots, Owen.
DeleteAs a born again atheist even I have to salute AOC for her expose of the hypocrite US "statesmen" and women!
ReplyDeleteReligion world wide has been bastardised to enable those that will use faith rather then science to control the destiny of their fellow man and woman.
The results have been disastrous from Africa to South America to the USA.
The commonality of these regimes , yes the USA too, is that the lust for power and money is at the heart/ root, of it all..

Those who use faith for their own gain are completely and particularly reprehensible, TB. I think AOC makes that abundantly clear.
DeleteI am guessing that non essential surgeries, chemical puberty blockers, genital mutilation are in this new definition of medical care when the motto is "I will abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm"
ReplyDeleteIt is drug addiction for no reason and surgery with the medical value of a tattoo.
It is not homophobic to not want to pander to dysphoria in people and pandering to dysphoria is not really an attribute.
While I do agree that every person is holy,; the actions of many are not. Without that qualifier on performance a lot of evil actors get to wear a halo. Or do serial killers, pedophiles, rapists also get the AOC pass?
It may surprise you to know that I oppose-reassignment surgery to minors, lunta. What I do support is counselling until that person becomes a legal adult and can then make a legally-binding decision.
DeleteThat being said, I think your preoccupation with the transgendered prevented you from hearing AOC's broader message of treating everyone with respect and dignity, whether or not they offend any particular set of sensibilities. You'll note she also mentions medical care, which would include someone seeking an abortion, as well as the wide spectrum of the LGBTQ+ community that faces so much vitriol these days.
As I said in a comment on Marie's blog the other day, democracy is not a buffet in which we get to select only what we like.
In my update, take a look at the news item posted to more fully appreciate what AOC is saying.
I hope AOC will run for president in 2028 - she would be outstanding.
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt she would offer a formidable challenge, Cathie.
