Christie - blah blah blah - Blatchford
I read Chrisie Blatchford's reprehensible column yesterday on Jack Layton, and since the comment boards are ablaze with outrage over her remarks, allow me to briefly add my own thoughts about people of her ilk:
I have come to the conclusion that the right is unable to recognize the genuine grief over Jack Layton's passing because it challenges too sharply its notion that the only things of value are bottom lines, profitability, and the unalloyed 'joys' of unfettered capitalism and materialism.
To be shown that human beings are more than simply economic entities is just too much for the conservative mind.

They were waiting for the mask to come off. They all adopt a politic persona in public that they use as a front to advance their hidden interests. They reasoned that finally the acting would stop, that Jack Layton couldn't be able to continue it on his death bed, and that finally the world will see the true evil of socialism even if they had to point it out themselves.
ReplyDeleteTheir problem is that Jack Layton was completely genuine. No mask, no act. He was, simply, the good person he appeared to be. How could they continue to rationalize their own past actions away with the example of a good man who did good things staring them in the face? Everyone was playing the game just to get ahead, right? So they doubled down in a bid to save their egos from the possibility that they've been colossally wrong.
