Meanwhile, Closer To Home

Much of the climate-change video material I post on my blog shows the devastation being wrought in the United States. I feature such material because it receives extensive coverage on American networks. It would, of course, be foolish to assume that such effects are confined to that country. Climate change is being felt worldwide through droughts, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding and killer heatwaves.

Closer to home, the impact of Hurricane Mathew is being experienced in the Maritimes, as the following amply demonstrates:

  2. Our turn next. EnviroCan has issued something called a "special weather statement" warning that the island will be hammered by a succession of severe storms beginning tonight and continuing through Saturday, possibly into Sunday. It appears these storms are out in the Pacific now barreling their way toward us. At least three, maybe four.

We're used to severe storm events, especially over the winter season, but this time the authorities are telling us to take some unusual precautions such as ensuring we have a supply of cash at home. What in hell for? I've got gas for my stove and hot water heater and plenty of wood to heat the house. It sounds as though the electricity will likely be out for a few days but that shouldn't be insurmountable. I did call my insurer to review my household policy. Outside right now it's sunny and quite calm. That, it seems, will change in a few hours. Oh well, see you guys on the other side.

    1. Best of luck in weathering the storm, Mound. These days, we are all very, very vulnerable.
