Ignorance Is Strength
That seems to be what Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party presidential candidate, seems to be arguing in yet another interview in which he makes Dondald Trump, by contrast, look like Mensa material:
...the former New Mexico governor appears to have stumbled into yet another gaffe by suggesting that somehow his ignorance of foreign policy is actually an advantage. After all, Johnson argued, you can't engage in war with a country you can't accurately locate. He also claimed that the geographical knowledge of our leaders puts "our military in harm's way."
In a nation in which, as Chris Hedges points out, 80% of families do not buy even one book in any given year, ignorance is no great drawback. The movie, "Idiocracy," was intended to be satirical. My kids looked at me oddly when I asked them to give me a copy for Christmas 2014. Now they understand that the Old Man wasn't actually off his rocker.
I think you have mentioned the movie before, Mound. I will make a point of viewing it. The sad devolution of intelligence and/or consciousness in the U.S. is perhaps an inevitable manifestation of a culture addicted to 'reality' shows, celebrity comings and goings, etc., eh?

DeleteAmazing . . . and frightening.
ReplyDeleteThe most frightening part is that some watching would consider this real wisdom, Owen.
DeleteYou may be on to something here, Lorne:
ReplyDeleteWar is peace candidate - clearly refers to Hillary
Freedom is slavery candidate - no other than Trump, eh?
Which leaves only Jill Stein as the only electable candidate. :)
May the wisdom of the electorate prevail, Anon.
