While he claims there is a big problem with anti-Semitism at Harvard (I wonder if any criticism of Israel's genocide in Gaza is construed as anti-Semitism), President Alan Gerber makes a stout defence of universities in this interview with Lester Holt.
The attacks described above are, of course, all of a piece. The war on intelligence, critical thinking and higher education seems almost inevitable as Trump's Amerika seeks to totally control the message.
The message: profound ignorance good; disagreement with authority very, very bad, and comes with severe consequences.
Donald Trump has invaded the United States. He looks to have a game plan originating with Robespierre adapted by Lenin and perfected by Pol Pot. What Trump doesn't know is that eventually the peasantry will display his head on a post.
ReplyDeleteThe best antidotes are education and a free press.
"The best antidotes are education and a free press." Both of which, Toby, are prime targets of the Trump regime.
DeleteIf as a country you are as they say in america 54% functionally illiterate; education and a free press probably are not your go-to antidotes. As I remember it the antidotes of Khmer Rouge and soon MAGA Red will be persecution of intellectuals and press reduced to a campaign of slogans of enemies and blame until they can be directed at will with no conscience. Hope we are ready .
ReplyDeleteSo if america does to Canada what israel did to Gaza because we want to remain a nation and resisted occupation and expulsion will anywhere protest?
Has an israeli anywhere ever said 'i wonder if it could have been something i did?'
I just don't have any more morals to abandon in the defense of the 'friends and neighbors down south' or their bombing buddies on the Gaza/Palestinian obliteration mission.
~americas heart is a long way from feeling the pain of the world but its fingers are deep in every wound the world has.
A pox on both their houses.
Agreed, lungta. Agreed.
