That seems to be the natural course of life, and for us to assume otherwise is simply another version of the hubris that has placed our planet in so much jeopardy.Lornehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15741324981120408977noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7884128379999766348.post-90010816601077473662016-02-21T12:12:02.707-05:002016-02-21T12:12:02.707-05:00If we start with the proposition that all life is ...If we start with the proposition that all life is interconnected, Lorne, creation makes sense.Owen Grayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06464860078574618579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7884128379999766348.post-91920470261271765352016-02-21T11:19:09.224-05:002016-02-21T11:19:09.224-05:00A good reminder that we're so stupid for think...A good reminder that we're so stupid for thinking we're smart about our planet.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7884128379999766348.post-7379549254379389832016-02-21T11:13:14.538-05:002016-02-21T11:13:14.538-05:00On another note, it's curious how animist beli...On another note, it's curious how animist beliefs were fairly widespread until they were extinguished by monotheistic, organized religions that usually asserted human dominion over all other lifeforms. Look how long it has taken mankind to recognize and acknowledge how sentient other creatures may be, complete with complex emotions, memory and the ability to reason and communicate. The Mound of Soundhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09023839743772372922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7884128379999766348.post-66140769458901054732016-02-21T11:09:21.021-05:002016-02-21T11:09:21.021-05:00I was discussing with my son-in-law yesterday the ...I was discussing with my son-in-law yesterday the developed world's obsession with colonizing other worlds. The idea, of course, is that humans should be the dominant species on new planets in order that, when the next extinction event befalls Earth, our species will live on.

There's such a blinding arrogance to the assumption that on some other habitable planet humans will be suited to dominate life on it. Any orchid grower knows that the more evolved the lifeform the less tolerant it can be to all but a few environments.

My idea was that we should launch a massive number of capsules into deep space laden with the essential minerals, elements and amino acids which sparked life on Earth. That would create a much better chance of transferring basic terrestrial life to other planets where it could evolve over millions of years into whatever was suitable to that locale.

The Mound of Soundhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09023839743772372922noreply@blogger.com
