UPDATED: The Latest Example Of Tory Contempt For The Electorate

This is the 'poll' Conservative MP Lawrence Toet is sending out to his Winnipeg constituents:

Federal NDP leader Tom Mulcair said on Wednesday the survey reflects a viewpoint pervasive in Conservative circles.

“It's the same approach as Stephen Harper. It's the same approach as Vic Toews, you know: ‘You're with us or against us; you can stand with us or stand with the pedophiles,’" he said.

“It's the same ludicrous divisive approach that the Conservatives have been taking for years. Canadians deserve better."
For me, what is most noteworthy here is what the tactic says about a government that thinks it can so egregiously, shamelessly and crassly manipulate the public.

UPDATE: It seems many Canadians are outraged, if their reddit mockery of Toet's mailout is any indication. Here are a couple of their suggested poll themes:
Do you believe the Keystone pipeline is in Canada's best interests?

Yes! It will create thousands of jobs.
No! I am an environmental terrorist and should be put in prison.
SkullBat

Will you be voting for Stephen Harper next election?

Yes, I want Canadians to be safe.
No, I like ISIS.

Are you: A) Conservative? B) Wrong?

    1. I'm not sure even 'slime' does justice to these bastards, Mound.

  2. You're very right Lorne about a government assuming they can manipulate the public. It implies a contempt for Canadians and a tacit understanding that we are all stupid. I find when this government does communicate with Canadians, what and how they communicate is usually very offensive.

    1. Let's all hope that Canadians are smarter than the Harperites think we are, Pamela.

  3. Slimeball, scumbag come to mind. Even Mulroney had more class than this.

Meanwhile, Steve's BFF in Israel, Netanyahu, seems to be against the ropes with the polls less than a week before the election showing the Likud Party at least 3 or 4 seats behind: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/mar/11/israel-elections-rising-panic-in-likud-ranks-as-opposition-gains-momentum

Perhaps there is a God after all. Will know for sure if Steve too gets his dues after our election/ejection, eh?

  4. These mailers are always like this. Pollievre is my MP and I have got a dozen or more mailers with equally or more absurd questions. I am surprised that one finally made the news.

    1. Perhaps the media should be doing more to expose this contemptuous behaviour, Kirby.

  5. If I recall correctly one of the mailers I got a few years ago had a choice something like the following -

Check the Box you agree with

-I believe that violent criminals should be treated appropriately.

-I believe that criminals should be coddled by activists judges.

    Hilarious and infinitely frustrating.

    1. Unbelievable. Thanks, Kirby. I asked my wife (I never read anything that comes from my Tory MP, David Sweet) whether we have ever gotten such nonsense. She says that we do, except they are not quite as obvious as yours and Toet's.
